STOP AND THINK!
2022-04-01 | Stories-PoemsDescription
Please sister, may I have a word with you?
Sure, sister, I am all ears, listening to you.
How do you feel about all the things happening around us?
Things like what, may I ask without fuss.
We are married but celibate;
Avowed rich though professed poor;
Our wills be done not the Lord’s;
Shouldn’t we stop and think?
I hear sister, but whom do we blame?
We table our concerns but later sit on them;
Our Constitutions decorate our shelves;
Serious affairs we oft turn into jokes.
Oh sister! Do wait and hear more!
We say we are going to Kano and end up in Badagry.
Once we can play our cards we never get caught;
Isn’t it time, dear sister we stopped to think?
Just yesterday, someone swore defiantly,
“I will never speak to Sr. ... till I die.”
Could this be coming from a Christian, I have not seized to wonder.
Where do we go from here? We must all give our answers.
I am not done sister, please wait a bit;
Do you know we are our family’s financial supporters?
There is a huge disconnect from what we profess;
The way forward is to stop and think!
I knew there were problems but not this grave;
Dear sister, how do you think we can initiate a change?
Continuing this way may lead to disintegration;
Our traditions are fading, what do we do?
The way to go is not to move;
We must all each stop and think!
We must all look inside of ourselves!
Stopping to think will halt scandalous deeds!
